Tummy Time with My Playmat
Joseph is seen here enjoying some tummy time on a playmat. He lies on his stomach and at times lifts his head to train his spine and muscles to be stronger. Thanks to Theo's parents Jeff and Konny for gifting this playmat to us!

Taitua Arboretum
Hello friends! This afternoon our little family ventured out to Taitua Arboretum. Joseph was in a Lillebaby carrier. He could see out the side (if only he was awake! ) The photo is showing our very first selfie. Ta da! We were accompanied by resident ducks, cows and roosters. The walk took 90 min and we built up a decent appetite! And here is a social media reel I made from the photos and videos.

Music
Here is a playlist we have been listening to. Jeanie started putting it together in preparation for the baby shower. Then it became our sound track for our birthing experience. When I hear 'Heartbeat' I always get a bit emotional - teary eyed. Such as the time we drove from hospital to River Ridge Birth Centre and we went past Anzac Parade. Must be the hormones!

1 Week
Hello, it’s been a while, how have you all been? Our little family has been adjusting to an eagerly anticipated new addition. On Monday Joseph had his one week check and he is steadily growing. New mum Jeanie is recovering well too and Andrew totally stepped up to the challenge in his role of new dad. Thank you for your well wishes and we hope to venture back into community when we are ready.

Confinement
We arrived at Ama and Agon's home for a brief confinement period according to Chinese culture. Usually this lasts 1 month. And there are strict rules like no hair washing! The photo is Joseph lying on his side using a apple patterned soft cloth that I used when I was a baby. My way of doing it was much relaxed and slack. Mum cooked every meal. We spent time in a heat pump warmed room. We established routine and Joseph has been a calm baby when he's not crying, an alert baby w

River Ridge
Andrew, Joseph and I transferred to River Ridge for the next couple of days. We were supported by midwives 24 / 7 to learn how to dress, feed, change nappy, bath and put Joseph to bed. My milk had not come. Joseph was also moderately jaundiced so we bottle fed him and was on a 3 hour feed-change-sleep cycle. The other photo is on towards the end of our stay.

Waikato Hospital
We had skin to skin and attempted to breastfeed Joseph at the very beginning of his life. The medical staff at Waikato Hospital check my vitals and found my heartbeat to be too fast. They kept us in for 2 days for observation. Joseph and I tried and tried but no milk came. My fast heartbeat was at the time a mystery. So they diagnosed me eventually with anemia. I was also quite dehydrated. I had a blood transfusion, iron infusion and fluids. We were discharged Tuesday 13 Augu

Our Birth Experience
We birth Joseph via induction from Friday the 9th August 2024. The photo is me having skin to skin with Joseph. The induction consisted of a maximum of 16 doses of medication to bring on labour. I needed 14 doses for my labour to become established. The second half of the induction was more and more painful. I was 4cm dilated when our midwife was called. She arrived and we transferred into the birthing suite. From then on I had laughing gas to relieve pain. I felt the urge to
